Tawang: Tawang, the land of Monpasis is situated at a height of 10,000 ft from the sea level. It is surrounded by Tibet in the north, Bhutan in the southwest, Kameng in the east. Tawang is known for its monastries and nunneries. Tawang Monastery is one of the biggest monasteries of India.It is also known as Galden Namgyal. It was built during the 17th century AD by Mera Lama. It is situated at a height of 3500 m near the Buddhist border. There are some very beautiful lakes near Tawang. Pankang Teng Tso Lake is one of them. It is aroung 17 kms away from the town. The best time to visit Tawang is between the months of June and October.
Gangtok: Gangtok is the capital of Sikkim. It has a very serene environment. Changu Lake in Gangtok is situated at the altitude of 12000 kms. The lake is about 1 km long and oval in shape. It is also a home of brahminy ducks. Nathu La pass is a mountain pass in the Himalayas. It connects Sikkim with China. The best tourist season to visit the city is between April to mid-June and mid-September to November.
Shillong: Shillong is the capital of Meghalaya. It is a beautiful hill station located at the height of 1496 meters. It is also called ‘Scotland of the East ‘. It has beautiful lakes and waterfalls. A gorgeous lake covered with different flowers, plants and trees located in the heart of the city is ward’s lake. Beadon Falls and Bishop Falls, and Elephant Falls, set amid fern-covered rocks, are popular waterfalls and picnic sites. It is known worldwide for its golf course, which is not only one of the wettest but also one of the best golf courses in the country.

Trekking: Trekking in North East is rare and a wild experience. Trekking opportunities in Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, Mizoram and Nagaland are very challenging making it adventurous. These areas are surrounded by a vast range of flora and fauna. It is characterized by peacefully flowing rivers, gushing waterfalls and green hills. The meadows and the tiny flowers that you find on your way make the journey refreshing and relishing.
Mountaineering: Mountaineering in North East is quite an experience as one gets the opportunity to chose between snow capped mountains and green towering peaks. The peaks of Sikkim provide one the chance of mountaineering on the snow capped ranges. It is quiet a dare. Extreme North East is the place where you can go for the lush green mountains. The hills of Assam can also be explored for rock climbing as well as mountaineering.
White Water Rafting: White water rafting is one of the most thrilling adventure sports. The rivers of North East are well suited of this. Teesta and Rangita rivers have long stretches of water. Teestas have been graded 4 on the International Scale Grade. Rafting in the roaring Brahmaputra River is challenging but a memorable experience.
Wildlife Tour: The Kaziranga National Park is home to tigers, panthers, elephants, rhinoceros, bears and thousands of birds. The one horned rhinoceros can be spotted here. An elephant safari is one of the best ways of sightseeing. It covers a total area of 430 square kilometers. It is covered with tall elephant grass. Manas National Park is a shelter for a lot of rare and endangered animals, birds and reptiles. Its landscape is very scenic. The prime attractions here are the tigers, elephants, rhinoceros and wild buffaloes. Along with these there is also Namdapha sanctuary, Keibul Lamjao Wildlife Sanctuary, Orang Wildlife Travel National Park and Pobitora Sanctuary.

The Cuisines Here are Awesome
Assamese food is based on rice and fish. This is their staple diet. They eat a lot of varieties of rice. Arunachl Pradesh is famous for its local drink made from millet or rice. It is called Apong. Mizoram’s Kabok is a rice dish with fried rice and lots of vegetables. Iromba is a combination of fish, vegetables and bamboo shoots which is served fermented. Meghalayan cuisine is more biased towards pork. Jadoh is a spicy dish of rice and pork. Kyat, the local brew made from rice is a part of every celebration. Sikkim serves authentic Tibetan food. Tchang is a locally made beer made od rice and millet. It is served in bamboo mugs. Momos, Thukpa, Ningra with Churpi, Gundruk, Phagshapa and Sael Rotis are some of the famous Sikkim’s cuisines.
