Panchgani or Paachgani is a calm hill station located in the Satara district of Maharashtra. This beautiful place is surrounded by five hills of sahyadri, and “Gani” and five villages Dandeghar, Khingar, Godwali, Amral & Taighat. Panchagani is located at an altitude of 1305 meters above sea level and lies close to Krishna River. Panchgani was made the retirement place for the British as it remained pleasant all through the year. The old British style houses continue to give this place an old school look. It is a very famous tourist attraction and there are a number of places to visit in Panchagani. So let us have a look at some of them.
Sydney Point: Sydney Point is a tiny hillock that offers unmatched views of the Krishna Valley, Kamalgad Fort, Dhom Dam, and the city of Wai. You can also get to see the hill ranges of Pandavgad and Mandhardeo from here.
Table Land: Table Land is the highest point in Panchagani and rises to a height of 4,550 ft above sea level. It is often regarded as Asia’s second longest mountain plateau and is a very famous picnic spot that offers a number of activities like horse riding, mini trains, food stalls and a few of games counters.
Parsi Point: Parsi Point is best known for the view that it offers of serene Dhom Dam backwaters and the lush green Krishna Valley. It was mostly visited by the people of Parsi community, hence was named Parsi Point.
Devil’s Kitchen: Devil’s Kitchen at the south of table land. It is supposed to be the place where Pandavas, the characters from the Hindu mythology Mahabharata, stayed for a while during their exile period. This place was used by them to cook their meals.
Kamalgad Fort: Kamalgad Fort is located at an altitude of 4,522 ft. The fort offers unparallel view of the Dhom backwaters, dense forests and the lush green vegetation below.
Dhom Dam: Dhom Dam is an earth fill and gravity dam on Krishna River near Wai. The major purpose of this dam is the supply of water to the agricultural fields, to the industries, and to the villages like around the bank of the dam.
Sherbaug Theme Park: Sherbaug Theme Park is a great place for a family vacation. Kids will surely love this place as it gives them the opportunity to explore the flora and fauna of the area. Cactus Garden and a Fossil Park are the key attractions of this park along with many others.
