When is Valentine day Celebrated?
Valentine’s Day, one of the most popular day for lovers, is celebrated on 14th of February every year. Though not a holiday in many countries, yet celebrated in full colors all over the world to celebrate love and romance.
Valentine Day History
Apart from its celebration, one may also be keen to know its importance, why it is celebrated? St Valentine is the real hero behind its history, but there are different stories from different peoples celebrating Valentine’s Day. One of the stories states that this day is celebrated on the death anniversary of St Valentine, who died in his jail confinement. St Valentine was a priest during the 3rd century, under the rule of Emperor Claudius II. It is believed that in order to avoid distraction of the young men, no single men of the country were permitted to get married and have wives and families. This injustice of the emperor was in-digestive to the priest and raised his voice against the emperor, but was not appreciated.
Later, without the consent and notice of Claudius, St Valentine continued to perform marriage of young lover. Claudius came to know about this and sentenced Valentine. While in the Jail, St Valentine healed the daughter of his jailer, Asterius. It is believed that before his execution, St Valentine wrote her a letter, bidding farewell and ended up with his last wordings that is “From Your Valentine” along with his signature.
Valentine Day- Present Day
In present day also many Valentine card contain this popular line “From Your Valentine”. People plan for different and unique ideas to celebrate with their partner and make him/her feel special. Presenting flowers, small gifts, cards, greetings, parties and even a small trip to any of your favorite place can be a part of your Valentine’s Day celebration.
